Domaine Matteri — The Renaissance of a Living Place
The Origin of the Project
Nestled between the hills of Carqueiranne, the Giens Peninsula, and the Mediterranean Sea, Domaine Matteri has been cultivating a unique terroir for over two centuries — bathed in light and open to the sea breeze. This 50-hectare vineyard, spread across five communes, benefits from a mosaic of soils — schist, chalk, clay-limestone, and sandy loam — which together give birth to precise and expressive wines.
In 2025, the estate opens a new chapter in its history with its acquisition by Patrice Lucas, an entrepreneur and investor committed to major environmental transitions for over twenty years. Co-founder of Akuo, an independent renewable energy producer and now an international reference in the sector, he chose to extend his commitment through an agricultural and human project that reconciles production, ecology, and living landscapes.
“For me, Domaine Matteri is a project of coherence — linking the energy of life, the Provençal landscape, and a demanding, forward-looking viticulture.” — Patrice Lucas
Domaine Matteri is thus entering a phase of gradual transformation: conversion to organic farming, vineyard restructuring, renovation of the cellar, experimentation with regenerative agricultural practices, and a renewed focus on producing wines that reflect the excellence of this exceptional terroir.
Regenerating Nature to Elevate Wine
The purpose of Domaine Matteri can be summed up in a single phrase:
Regenerate nature to elevate the quality of wine.
The ambition is to make the estate a reference in regenerative organic viticulture in Provence — combining ecological responsibility, agronomic innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in winemaking.
To achieve this, the estate has embarked on a full transition to organic agriculture, aiming for certification within three years. This shift is accompanied by tangible agroecological practices: sowing of cover crops, planting hedgerows, creation of ponds, introduction of melliferous species, and experimentation with biocontrol methods.
These initiatives aim to restore soil fertility, improve water retention, and strengthen the vineyard’s resilience to extreme climate events.
The Domaine also works with leading partners: Milpa for regenerative viticulture, Ecomed for biodiversity monitoring, and Alain Malard for hydrology and water management — embedding its transformation in a results-driven scientific approach.
Two research programs, conducted with the CIVP (Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence) — Terre Apara and Solvivar — will measure the scientific impact of regenerative practices on soil health and grape quality.
In parallel, a heritage program is dedicated to preserving historic and forgotten Provençal grape varieties: Tibouren, Caladoc, Rousseli, and Mourvaison. These rare, heat-resistant varieties express the singularity of the terroir while preparing the vineyard for tomorrow’s climate challenges. New resistant grapes such as Sauvignac and Souvignier Gris are also being introduced to anticipate future ecological transitions.
Every decision — from the vineyard to the cellar — follows the same principle:
Produce better, let the terroir speak with sincerity, and restore true meaning to the word “quality.”
Wines Rooted in Their Time
The wines of Domaine Matteri share a common identity: authentic, luminous, and balanced, speaking both to connoisseurs and curious enthusiasts.
Their style embodies a true Provence — generous yet precise, artisanal yet contemporary.
The range will be structured around four main families:
Partage (Sharing): approachable, fresh, and convivial wines — ambassadors of Provençal friendliness.
Élégance (Elegance): gastronomic cuvées, fine and complex, embodying the refined Provençal art of living.
Signature: limited-edition creations from rare grapes such as Rousseli or Tibouren — for passionate explorers and wine professionals.
Excellence: exceptional wines built for ageing, reflecting the depth of the terroir and the savoir-faire of the estate.
These collections will be introduced progressively, in rhythm with the vineyard’s transformation and the evolution of cellar techniques. The renovated winery, designed for gentle, precise vinifications, will highlight the wines’ natural balance and aromatic purity.
A Living Estate Anchored in Its Land
Beyond wine, Domaine Matteri aims to become a living, multifunctional place, deeply connected to its environment:
A regenerative polyculture landscape combining vines, olive trees, orchards, and aromatic plants;
A laboratory of agricultural innovation, where new viticultural and energy practices are tested;
A place of hospitality and culture, open to visitors, artists, and those working for a living planet.
“We want Domaine Matteri to become a place of sharing and experimentation — where we cultivate both the land and the connection between people — and to demonstrate that agriculture and viticulture can have a sustainable and desirable future.” — Patrice Lucas
By placing regeneration at the heart of its philosophy, the estate is betting on a viticultural model that is demanding, resilient, and emotionally engaging. It shows that another path is possible — one of respectful, low-impact, and ambitious agriculture, where performance is measured as much by the quality of the wine as by the fertility of the soil.
